Fees, Waivers, and Bursaries

Registration fees and payment information

Registration for the Congress is now closed.

Early bird registration for conveners, presenters and discussants as well as the general public opens on 4 January 2024. Early bird registration closes on 20 March 2024. Standard registration will then be open from 21 March until 7 April 2024. Registration payments can be made using debit card, credit card and bank transfer.

If you plan to make a payment after submitting your abstract, click the “Book now, pay later” option.

Everyone, including contributors, who attends the Congress must be an ISE member. Registration for membership can be found here.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: sliding scale registration fees

We operate sliding-scale registration fees, where individuals whose annual incomes are higher than others ‘pay it forward’. ALL funds received through registration fees will be reinvested in travel bursaries to ensure that colleagues from lower-income countries, indigenous and local community members, and junior colleagues can attend.

Your honesty with regards to your fee category will result in a vibrant, diverse and equitable Congress.

Cancellation & Refund Policies

We, the ISE Congress 2024 organising committee, hope everyone who registers for the Congress can attend. We of course recognise however that extenuating circumstances occur and we have created the following Cancellation and Refund Policies accordingly:

Congress Refund and Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your Congress registration on or before 10 April 2024, you will receive a full refund minus a €23 administrative fee.

If you cancel your Congress registration between 10 April 2024 and 5 May 2024, you will receive a 50% refund, minus a €23 administrative fee.

Anyone who cancels after 5 May 2024, will NOT receive a refund.

Due to the high level of administrative and logistical planning of this international Congress for over 400 people, we cannot waive the refund and cancellation policy.

In the event ISE Congress 2024 must cancel the conference due to unforeseen circumstances, ISE Congress 2024 will refund the full cost of registration.

Unforeseen circumstances defined for Refund and Cancellation Policies

‘Unforeseen circumstances’ refers to any unexpected event or situation that prevents the ISE Congress 2024 from going ahead. Examples of such circumstances include, but are not limited to, extreme weather and/or other natural disasters, unexpected site unavailability, technology challenges (i.e. major power shortages or infrastructural breakdowns), or in the event of minimal registration numbers to the Congress.

For questions regarding registration or the Congress in general, please contact isecongress24@gmail.com.

Registration fee waiver

The International Society of Ethnobiology and Cadi Ayyad University are offering Congress registration fee waivers to the following categories of participants:

  1. Grassroot activists, small farmers and active members of cultural and agricultural communities in Morocco and from the Global South

  2. Representatives of indigenous and local communities

  3. Volunteer students from Cadi Ayyad University

  4. Selected ISE Board members

  5. GDF Conservation and Communities Fellows

If you are eligible for a registration fee waiver, please apply through the following form.

Please note that the ISE Congress 2024 is able to offer only a limited amount of registration fee waivers. For eligible profiles belonging to categories 1. and 2., a first-come, first-served policy will be applied. We will also ensure that session leaders and contributors who are eligible for fee waivers are able to attend the Congress.

Once a fee waiver application has been submitted, we will respond within a few weeks and by 24 February at the latest. We request that you do not complete Congress registration until you have heard back from us regarding the status of your fee waiver application.

If you are interested in joining the steward/volunteer ISE Congress 2024 programme, feel free to email francesca@global-diversity.org. More information on the steward/volunteer ISE Congress 2024 programme will be available soon.

Travel bursaries

It gives us great pleasure to announce that we have provided travel bursaries to nearly 40 indigenous and local community representatives, grassroots activists, people from historically marginalised communities and academics from the Global South! In doing so, we hope to organise an inclusive and innovative Congress that celebrates diversity and decoloniality in ethnobiology and offer opportunities to those who have often been left out of these discourses.

Individual fundraising support

All eligible candidates for bursary support are strongly encouraged to contribute to their financial needs by developing individual fundraising efforts. Congress organisers will provide limited support to individuals who (a) wish to apply for institutional or private funding and (b) wish to create crowdfunding campaigns to support their travel.

A dedicated page with further information & support on individual fundraising support will be available soon!

Feel free to contact us to receive a supporting letter for your independent fundraising/grant applications.
